STANCE
Stance is very important in boxing as it
directly influence your strike and defense. The basics are lead foot and lead
hand come out to the front. Your two fists will stay up and will be used as defending
(guarding). The lead hand will be in front of your face and your stronger arm
at the back will cover your cheek and chin to prevent getting knock down. If
you are a right hand boxer, your left arm and leg will be at the front as lead
hand and lead foot. On the other hand if you are a left hand boxer also known
as southpaw right hand and right foot will be your lead hand and lead foot.

PUNCHES
There are 4 basic types of punches in
boxing;
Jab: a quick punch thrown with the lead
hand. It is the most important punch in boxing as it has the longest reach, and
normally sets up for the heavier blows.
Cross: a power punch performed with your
rear hand (stronger hand). The fist travels in a straight line from the chin. Your
torso and hips can be rotated to give additional power.
Hook: a semi-circular punch with the lead
hand to strike opponent’s side of their head. Its power usually comes from the
rotation shoulder and spin.
Uppercut: a vertical punch with the rear
hand to strike opponent’s lower jaw. Boxer crouches down and uses the momentum
standing up to get more power.
These punches are thrown in different
sequences called combos. For example Jab-Cross combination is called one-two
combo.
